Microneedling
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation technique that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin’s surface. This triggers the body’s natural wound-healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production while allowing active ingredients to penetrate more effectively — resulting in smoother, firmer, more radiant skin over time.
At Muted Aesthetics, we use the Dermapen 4, a medical-grade device trusted for its precision and consistency. Its adjustable needle depth allows treatments to be tailored to each client’s skin concerns and sensitivity, while its vibrating micro-needling technology minimises discomfort and reduces tissue trauma compared to manual methods — supporting a more controlled, comfortable treatment with faster recovery.

Is Microneedling just for aging?
No, Microneedling can be used to:
Diminish the appearance of scars and stretch marks
Improve the texture and overall appearance of the skin
Reduction in the volume of blackheads appearing on the skin
Reduce pore size resulting in smoother skin
Helps in stopping acne and cystic acne progression
Exfoliates skin thoroughly
Slows down the signs of skin aging as evidenced by reduced fine lines and wrinkles
-
The treatment begins with skin cleansing and sanitising to prepare the skin for the treatment.
The selected glide is then needled in to the skin with the Dermapen 4 device. This can be uncomfortable for some with deeper treatments being a bit more uncomfortable. This process takes no more than 10minutes approximately.
Once complete a Uber Peel can be performed and followed with a cooling mask. If not using the peel a mask is applied and a cooling hammer to help soothe the inflamed skin.
Lastly skin repair cream and SPF are applied.
-
The treatment is tolerated by individuals differently but several technical features, including the oscillating (up and down) motion, incredible speed, and sharp needles, mean that a Dermapen Treatment is now so comfortable that numbing cream is no longer required. Numbing cream can still be used if a person is unable to tolerate the treatment.
After the treatment your skin may look and feel red, warm, tight - like a mild sunburn. This resolves over the next 24-48hrs.
-
You will notice an improvement on the appearance and texture of the skin after one session. The long-term benefits however become noticeable 8 to 12 weeks
after your initial procedure. For best results, one must undergo microneedling every 6 to 8 weeks. Period in between allows for the skin to heal properly
and for new skin cells to fill in the micro injuries created by the skin pen device. -
As a rough guide, you can expect between 3-8 professional procedures as part of your initial Dermapen Treatment at an interval of 2-8 weeks.
This can be discussed at consultation once your skin has been assessed for a more accurate treatment schedule.
-
It is important to protect and provide extra special care for your skin for at least 3-4 days following a Dermapen 4™ procedure.
Typically, patients experience 36-48 hours of mild to moderate sunburn in appearance and sensation following their treatment.
During the healing process, minor itching, hives, some flaking, or redness may appear.
Do not pick, squeeze or agitate the skin during the recovery period.
